These are suggested itineraries to complement your Southern African tour.

TOUR 1 – Rough and Tough

A 2-day horse trek. 1 night in a Basotho village and 2 nights at Malealea Lodge.

  • Day 1

    Arrive and stay overnight at Malealea Lodge. Enjoy a Basotho Childrens Choir and the local music band, who use homemade instruments to entertain you around the campfire. Comfortable accommodation at Malealea Lodge.

  • Day 2

    A 6 -7 hour horse trek through very remote areas to a Basotho Village where you will stay overnight in a very basic Basotho Hut and will experience village life.

  • Day 3

    An early morning hike to the Ribaneng Waterfall, before returning to the lodge via a circular route. Stay overnight at Malealea Lodge.

  • Day 4

    Depart from Malealea Lodge

TOUR 2 – Comfortable

Day pony treks and hikes or scenic drives with 3 nights at Malealea Lodge.

  • Day 1

    Arrive and stay overnight at Malealea Lodge. Enjoy a Basotho Childrens  Choir and the local music band, who use homemade instruments to entertain you around the campfire. Comfortable accommodation at Malealea Lodge.

  • Day 2

    A day pony trek, hike or scenic drive to the Botsoela Waterfall and Bushman Paintings, passing by Basotho Villages, shepherds with their cattle, sheep and goats out in the lands.

  • Day 3

    A hike to the Pitseng Canyon and a swim in the cascade of 3 rockpools. Basotho Children will take you to their homes in the nearby village.

  • Day 4

    Depart from Malealea Lodge.

TOUR 3 – Basotho Adventure

Trekking and hiking holiday experiencing real Africa. 4 nights at Malealea Lodge, 4 days trekking and 3 nights in Basotho Villages. This tour can be made shorter.

  • Day 1

    Your destination is the Malealea Lodge at around 6,500 ft in the aptly named Valley of Paradise. Enjoy a Basotho Childrens Choir and the local music band, who use homemade instruments to entertain you around the campfire. Comfortable accommodation at Malealea Lodge.

  • Day 2

    A day hike to a nearby gorge that boasts Bushman paintings done by the San nearly 500 years ago and a hike to the nearby Botsoela Waterfall. Accommodation at Malealea Lodge.

  • Day 3

    A 6-7 hour horse trek to the small village of Ribaneng. An hour hike to the 100m Ribaneng waterfall. Basotho Village Hut Accommodation

  • Day 4

    A 6-7 hour trek over remote mountain passes to Ha Hlalele. A hike to view the 122m drop Ketane Waterfall. Basotho Village Hut Accommodation.

  • Day 5

    A 6-7 hour trek back on a slightly circular route to Ribaneng. The reverse views are completely different and on clear days you can see the Free State in the far distance. Basotho Village Hut Accommodation.

  • Day 6

    Descend into the Valley of Paradise, where you are welcomed with hot showers and the comforts of Malealea Lodge.

  • Day 7

    A hike to the Pitseng canyon, where a cascade of three rock pools has been carved out over the centuries. Accommodation at Malealea Lodge.

  • Day 8

    Depart from Malealea.
